Aces and Races: Sunday Mega-Card — March 1, 2026
Ten tracks. Dozens of races. One place to be. Welcome to the Aces and Races Sunday Spectacular, where we break down the best bets and biggest races across the country for a loaded first day of March.
Oaklawn Park — Hot Springs, Arkansas
Oaklawn is carrying the biggest card of the day, capped by two graded stakes events that every serious horseplayer needs to have on their card.
Race 3 — Allowance Optional Claiming ($126,000) | 6 Furlongs Dirt | 1:02 PM CT
This is the sharpest race on the board all day. Booth (Post 1) comes in as the overwhelming morning line favorite at 6/5 and sits atop the projections by a significant margin. Right behind him is Tejano Twist (Post 6) at 2/1, making this a likely two-horse affair at the top. Durante (Post 4) and Hola Joey (Post 2) round out the field with respectable numbers but face a steep climb to beat the top pair.
Betting Suggestion: Single Booth on top in exactas and trifectas with Tejano Twist in second. Box those two for safety.
Race 9 — Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes ($750,000) | 8.5 Furlongs Dirt | 4:15 PM CT
The Honeybee is a key Kentucky Oaks prep, and this year’s edition looks like a strong one. Explora (Post 9) tops the projections at 7/5 on the morning line. Search Party (Post 6) at 9/2 and Taken by the Wind (Post 10) at 5/2 are both live threats, as are Sneaky Good (Post 2) and Knickleandime (Post 5). This is a quality filly field that deserves full trifecta coverage.
Betting Suggestion: Use Explora and Taken by the Wind on top. Spread wide underneath in the trifecta — include Search Party, Sneaky Good, and Knickleandime.
Race 11 — Grade 2 Rebel Stakes ($1,000,000) | 8.5 Furlongs Dirt | 5:23 PM CT
The marquee event of the day. The Rebel is a premier Kentucky Derby points race, and this field is loaded. Litmus Test (Post 2) tops the projections at 7/2, trained by Bob Baffert. Bravaro (Post 1) at 8/1 sits second and offers some value. Right behind him, three horses are virtually inseparable — Blackout Time (Post 4) at 8/5, Silent Tactic (Post 7) at 9/2, and Soldier N Diplomat (Post 10) at 10/1. Class President (Post 3) for Todd Pletcher at 10/1 is also a threat. This is a race built for exacta and trifecta wheels.
Betting Suggestion: Key Litmus Test in the win. Use Litmus Test, Blackout Time, and Silent Tactic on top in exactas. For the trifecta, spread all five of the top horses in various combinations — this race could produce a big payoff underneath.
Gulfstream Park — Hallandale Beach, Florida
Gulfstream offers eleven races and some terrific turf action throughout the afternoon.
Race 4 — Maiden Special Weight ($84,000) | 7 Furlongs Dirt | 1:51 PM ET
Sansone (Post 5) is the standout here, projecting well clear of the field at 2/1 morning line. Mizzou (Post 7), Wheelhouse (Post 6), and Noble Sky (Post 4) are in the mix but face a real challenge. When a maiden top horse projects this far ahead of the field, the single is worth considering.
Betting Suggestion: Single Sansone in exactas on top. Use him in multi-race bets.
Race 10 — Allowance Optional Claiming ($87,000) | 6.5 Furlongs Dirt | 4:53 PM ET
Souper Tuscan (Post 7) at 4/1 is the top projection in a solid allowance field. American Monarch (Post 1) at 2/1 will be well-bet but projects second. Rookie Card (Post 6) at 9/2 is also live. A sharp race to close out the main card.
Betting Suggestion: Exacta box Souper Tuscan and American Monarch. Use Naughty Rascal (Post 2) as a trifecta saver — he has solid supporting numbers at 15/1.
Aqueduct — Jamaica, New York
The Big A runs eight races on a cold first day of March, with a nice stakes race mid-card.
Race 7 — Correction Stakes ($135,000) | 6 Furlongs Dirt | 4:19 PM ET
With the Angels (Post 7) for trainer Linda Rice and jockey Jose Lezcano is the morning line favorite at 2/1, and she tops the projections convincingly for this fillies and mares sprint. Alani (Post 3) at 12/1 projects second and could offer some value underneath. Sunday Girl (Post 6) and Hold Your Breath (Post 1) sit just behind.
Betting Suggestion: Key With the Angels on top of exactas and trifectas. Use Alani as a value play underneath at 12/1.
Race 6 — Starter Allowance ($60,000) | 8 Furlongs Dirt | 3:47 PM ET
Turn and Count (Post 3) tops the projections at 5/2 in this competitive starter allowance. Sergeant Capps (Post 9) at 4/1 and Carvellian Quest (Post 1) at 7/2 are both live. Oil Capital (Post 6) for trainer Linda Rice is an interesting 6/1 shot.
Betting Suggestion: Spread the top four in exacta combinations. This race looks competitive enough for a wheel approach.
Fair Grounds — New Orleans, Louisiana
Fair Grounds offers a full card headlined by a pair of strong allowance events.
Race 8 — Allowance Optional Claiming ($57,000) | 6 Furlongs Dirt | 4:15 PM CT
Benji Star (Post 6) tops the projections and comes in as a 5/1 morning line shot for trainer Mike Stidham. Smash It (Post 3) at even money behind him, with Hay Jude (Post 2) also well-placed. A strong statebred field.
Betting Suggestion: Use Benji Star and Smash It in exactas. For value, include Hay Jude in trifecta tickets.
Race 2 — Starter Optional Claiming ($28,000) | 6 Furlongs Dirt | 1:15 PM CT
Disco Ball (Post 1) is the top projection in this sprint with a commanding number. Get Her Number (Post 5) is right behind. The rest of the field falls off significantly.
Betting Suggestion: Exacta key Disco Ball on top with Get Her Number in second. Single them in multi-race sequences.
Santa Anita Park — Arcadia, California
The Great Race Place offers nine races including some quality turf events under the San Gabriel Mountains.
Race 9 — Starter Optional Claiming ($35,000) | 8 Furlongs Turf | 4:43 PM PT
A fascinating turf sprint to close the card. Sneaking Candy (Post 5) and Mysterious Husband (Post 2) are dead-even at the top of the projections — both sitting at 88 — making this an unusual matchup between two seemingly equal contenders. Call Me Sir (Post 8) is right behind at 86.
Betting Suggestion: Box Sneaking Candy, Mysterious Husband, and Call Me Sir in the exacta. All three should appear in trifecta combinations.
Race 8 — Allowance Optional Claiming ($70,000) | 6 Furlongs Dirt | 4:11 PM PT
Thirsty Trickster (Post 9) tops the projections for this statebred fillies and mares allowance at 4/1. Miss Practical (Post 7) at 2/1 will be heavily bet but projects just a point behind. Both are trained sharply.
Betting Suggestion: Exacta box Thirsty Trickster and Miss Practical. Trifecta underneath includes Gold Currency (Post 8).
Sam Houston Race Park — Houston, Texas
Sam Houston carries an eight-race card highlighted by a pair of turf allowances that merit attention.
Race 5 — Allowance | 8.5 Furlongs Turf | 2:48 PM CT
Faustin (Post 1) is the clear standout here, projecting well ahead of the field at 7/5 morning line. The gap between Faustin and the rest of the field is significant — One Time Mark (Post 4) at 6/1 is the closest challenger.
Betting Suggestion: Single Faustin on top in multi-race bets. Key him in exactas with One Time Mark and Mohaymen Holiday (Post 8).
Race 8 — Allowance | 8 Furlongs Turf | 4:09 PM CT
Bergen (Post 3) tops the projections for trainer Ralph Diodoro at 3/1. News At Nine (Post 8) at 9/2 and Wow That’s Hot (Post 2) at 9/5 are the main challengers. This is a well-matched field with the favorite slightly ahead.
Betting Suggestion: Exacta box Bergen, Wow That’s Hot, and News At Nine. Include all three on top in trifectas.
Laurel Park — Laurel, Maryland
Laurel runs eight races including a solid allowance optional to close the card.
Race 7 — Allowance Optional Claiming ($53,000) | 9 Furlongs Dirt | 2:58 PM ET
Certified Loverboy (Post 3) is a monster morning line favorite at 1/1 and projects far ahead of his competition. If he fires, he wins. Tops the Chart (Post 6), Xcellent Start (Post 5), and Hagrid’s Flame (Post 2) are the main threats if something goes wrong on the front end.
Betting Suggestion: Single Certified Loverboy in multi-race sequences. Use Hagrid’s Flame as an upset special at 3/1.
Sunland Park — Sunland Park, New Mexico
Sunland runs a full nine-race card with some interesting statebred sprints.
Race 7 — Claiming ($35,200) | 5.5 Furlongs Dirt | 3:04 PM MT
Diabolical Storm (Post 9) tops the projections at 5/1 for trainer T.W. Fincher. One Mark (Post 3) at 7/2 is a close second. Sambas Mark (Post 6) at 5/1 is also live.
Betting Suggestion: Exacta key Diabolical Storm with One Mark and Sambas Mark. Trifecta coverage should include Brandyn (Post 5).
Fonner Park — Grand Island, Nebraska
Fonner runs a solid regional card with some interesting maiden events.
Race 7 — Claiming ($10,000) | 6 Furlongs Dirt | 4:12 PM CT
Upstriker (Post 3) leads the projections at 5/1, with El Mero Mero (Post 2) and Spirit’s Mischief (Post 4) right behind in a closely bunched group. A good exacta race.
Betting Suggestion: Box Upstriker, El Mero Mero, and Spirit’s Mischief in exactas and trifectas.
Tampa Bay Downs — Oldsmar, Florida
Tampa closes out our mega-card with a nine-race program that includes some sharp sprint action.
Race 2 — Allowance Optional Claiming ($55,500) | 6 Furlongs Dirt | 1:05 PM ET
Adios Tootsie (Post 1) is the top projection for trainer Mark Yates at 9/5 in this three-year-old filly allowance. The drop-off to Questnbled’cisions (Post 4) and Turkish Pistachio (Post 5) is noticeable.
Betting Suggestion: Key Adios Tootsie on top in exactas. Use her in multi-race sequences across tracks.
Race 6 — Claiming ($32,500) | 7 Furlongs Dirt | 3:10 PM ET
Prancin Inthe Dark (Post 7) is the top projection at 8/5 and owns a big edge over the field. Coqueta Blue (Post 2) at 2/1 is the main threat.
Betting Suggestion: Exacta key Prancin Inthe Dark on top. Box with Coqueta Blue for safety.
